I filed my first tax return in 1976, after receiving my first W2 from Mc'Donald's, where I worked weekends and after school for $2.10 per hour. My dad, an accountant for the State of NJ, prepped the tax returns for everyone in the family, aunts and uncles, relatives, a few neighbors; and he showed me how it was done. I did my own taxes that first year and every year since, and like a chip off the old Block :-) I began doing the tax returns for my own collection of friends, relatives, and fellows. I enjoyed the work, and so thus figured I might as well get paid for it. I took some classes and went to work for the local H&R Block, nights and weekends January thru April, but kept my retail management day job for another 11 years. I went full time after that, eventually left Block, then worked 7 years for a local [unnamed] CPA firm (where I learned a lot of what NOT to do as a tax professional...), I did remote tax prep for both Turbo Tax (Intuit) and a fledgling online tax presence called Taxfyle. I've found that there is no shortage of work in this business, and potential new clients are everywhere. So here I am!
